We Milk It

We Make It

Our freshly made, luxury dairy ice cream, crafted from cow to cone right here on our farm in the heart of Oxfordshire.

The Oxford Cow Dairy

Our family, the Christensens, have been milking cows at Kingston Hill Farm near Kingston Bagpuize, Oxfordshire for over 50 years.

Animal welfare is at the heart of our farming. We have a dedicated team who work really hard to ensure that our cows are happy and healthy. We also aim to farm in a sustainable manner with consideration to the environment, to ensure, wherever possible, that farming practices are kept out of non-farming areas.

We’re often asked about supplying milk and dairy products locally and so we thought we’d take the plunge, and what better way than with some delicious ice cream to put a smile on your face.

Our beautiful dairy herd is a mix of cross bred cows with Friesians, Scandinavian Red and Brown Swiss. Much of their time is spent enjoying the pastures surrounding the farm as we really believe that free-range and grass grazed cows produce the very best milk, and therefore delicious ice cream. I can see the cows from my ice cream dairy, meaning the food miles can be measured in metres! Now that’s what you call local ice cream.

How it’s made

Made right here on the farm. I can see the cows coming in for milking from my ice cream dairy.

All our ice cream is made in small batches with the finest ingredients, including our own milk. It is carried across the farmyard and pasteurised straight away, to help to preserve the lovely fresh flavour. Mixed by hand and using equipment you would find in an Italian Gelateria, the ice cream ingredients are blended and frozen quickly to ensure the ice crystals are so small it produces a lovely smooth texture.

Flavours are being developed, and will be adapted according to the season. Staple favourites include Oxford Creamy Cow (our ‘fior di latte’ ) which is a pure, delicate, creamy flavour, mint stracciatella, salted caramel,  chocolate and Biscoff. Serve/store – Our Oxford Cow ice cream should be stored in the deep freezer, however, we recommend placing in the fridge to soften before serving as not only does this make it easier to scoop, the slightly warmer temperature really enhances the flavour.

Recipes and ideas to enjoy Oxford Cow Ice Cream

Team up our delicious ice cream with any of your favourite puds, but in our opinion it tastes delicious just by itself, or another scoop of a delicious flavour!

To serve your ice cream we recommend you take it from the deep freezer and place in the fridge to soften before you want to use it. Not only will this make scooping easier, the flavours are even more enhanced at this slightly warmer temperature.
